Webferret 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2013 Hello all, If your using AMD FX, AMD Opteron 4200 Series, or AMD Opteron 6200 Series this hotfix (along with the one listed in Important) fixes Parked core issues. I installed both these hotfixes on my AND FX-8150 and seen a massive improvement in FSX and many other sims and games. As I was having 4+ cores parked constantly by Windows 7 Ultimate. Not for Intel, See EDIT for other way to unpark cores. Link : Install this Hotfix first - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594 - The important Hotfix they dont give link for. Link : Install this Hotfix last - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060 Warning though, there is no revert option after installing these hotfixes. But they have worked great for myself and a few friends of mine with no issues. EDIT (22/07/2013) : There is a small program you can use instead which can be used for Intel or AMD if you prefer not to use the hotfixes (Hotfixes are for AMD only) - http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility Along with using : http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html My system specs: AMD FX-8150 @ 4.2ghz + Thermaltake Water 2.0 PRO All In One Liquid Cooling 16G DDR3 Gskill memory Gigabyte Nvidia 560GTX - Hoping to upgrade when wife faction allows. Asrock 990FX Extreme3 Mainboard 2 x Seagate 1TB in Raid config - FSX and other sim games Drives. 1 x Seagate 500GB OS DRive Cheers Ferret

Webferret 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Does it work for AMD Phenom II X6 1055T aswell? I would think so mate. Worked on every AMD processor I have had to sort with Parked Cores. Though not had a client in with a 1055T yet. cheers Ferret
Peacerock 1 Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Some say it is not recommended and other say it's good for performance in games. I also found links that maybe interesting to read. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/76dac4e8-ce8f-4b83-b33d-bbef50ae5d9c/cpu-core-parking-in-windows-7-should-it-be-left-alone-or-should-users-disable-it http://www.overclock.net/t/1240512/cpu-core-parking-good-or-bad
Webferret 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2013 Some say it is not recommended and other say it's good for performance in games. I also found links that maybe interesting to read. I think its personal preference and what your doing with your PC. Myself, friends and clients (Own an IT business) have found it an improvement on running some games, sims etc. Best way probably if you are unsure is grab the small program and try it and see (See my EDIT on my first post for link), if no difference the program can turn core parking back on, not like the hotfixes which you can not remove once installed (other than format reload). I first looked into this as I was having a bottleneck issue on my system. When I noticed that I had quite a few parked cores constantly no matter what power plans, and bios settings I tinkered with. Unparking the cores, and now I have everything running brilliantly. FSX runs like a charm with all the add on scenery, payware aircraft I use etc. Along with some other SIMs and a few other genre games I play.
